SHARE Mission

Empowering girls in Africa is the greater vision of SHARE, founded by Shannon McNamara.

SHARE’s mission is to create a literary environment
to inspire school girls in East Africa to reach their
highest potential.

Even among the girls in Tanzania who attend primary school, many remain illiterate.  The main reason is that Tanzanian girls are expected to spend their time doing household chores, leaving no time for homework.

Today 50 girls ages 10-15, from Kagondo and the surrounding communities in Bukoba, gather to read in the first SHARE room at the Kiteyagwa Primary School.  The safe and secure classroom is equipped with 1200 books and various learning materials, including a laptop computer and 170 software discs, donated by New Jersey residents.  Each afternoon eager young women engage in literary discourse, exchange ideas, and explore options for a better future.
